Is there a magic pill I can take? Or do I actually have to put in the effort? I wish there was a magical pill, but unfortunately, you do have to put in the effort. It all really depends on what type of writing you are aiming to do; for instance, writing a public report is quite different than writing short stories. The best thing to do is to choose a mode of concentration and hone it to the best of your ability. What do I mean by this? Let’s say you decide to write romance fiction novels. What must you do now? Well, brainstorm and be creative. Use your imagination to come up with a set of characters and plot lines for your story. I would recommend you create some sort of outline before you begin writing. It helps to structure your thoughts and it’ll make it much easier for you to write your story.
Let your creativity flow and don’t hold back. If you’re struggling to concentrate, then try something different. Some people prefer listening to music when they write, others prefer complete silence. Figure out what works best for you. When I write, I love background noise, but it can’t be too loud or else I’d lose my focus. As soon as you are able to concentrate, you’ll be unstoppable.
It’s not just about forming words, but about choosing an audience. Who are you trying to reach? What kind of audience do you want to gain? Do you want young adults to read your story? If so, then aim to attract young adults. Make your story stand out to your intended audience.
Whether you’re writing a research paper or writing short-stories, practice is key. The more you practice the better you will be. Not only must you practice, but make sure to read in your spare time. Learning from others can improve your writing. If you want to continue improving your writing, try sticking to a topic and writing whatever comes to mind. Maybe you’re interested in gun laws, so why not write about gun laws? The more you write, like I’ve said before, the better you will be as a writer.
Now, if you’re trying to sell your book, that’s another story. Try marketing and don’t give up. The point is that a successful writer stems from honing the art of writing. Make sure you are connected to the words you write. Most importantly, just write and once you are done, go back and edit your piece of work. Pay attention to grammar and sentence structure. You can always use Word and Grammarly as writing tools in case you need an extra hand.
Keep your mind clear and don’t give up. A successful writer never gives up. He or she may take a break, but eventually, will continue to write. Who becomes successful without trying hard? It is hard work, but it will be worth it in the end, you’ll see.
